Up and Running!

12/19/22

Y'all, I'm amazed.

The first round of Prickly Pear Distortions is selling better than I could ever have hoped! The money from this round of sales is going to fund the next batch of pedals AND some R&D for upcoming pedals!

I've had a couple requests for reissues of the Caffeine Boost, a boost/overdrive/buffer with tons of headroom for pushing amps into breakup. I'm a huge fan of this pedal and I'm flattered that some of you are too. I'm in the process of tweaking the design slightly to make it easier to assemble (and service, should that ever become necessary), and hope to have a batch of those ready sometime in January. Don't worry, the circuit/components/sound will remain true to the original.

Also in the works is a massive, wall-of-sound fuzz inspired by the modifications I've made to one of the first distortion pedals I ever owned, The 2000 NYC Big Muff Pi Reissue*.

I've always figured I loved this pedal so much mostly for reasons of nostalgia and fond memories of my entry into pedal modification that would later lead to pedal building, but after some rave reviews from friends who recorded with it this weekend, I'm working on seeing if I can match the incredible tone of this heavily modified pedal with one built from scratch. Updates on this hopefully coming soon!

Initial Testing of Prickly Pears

12/7/2022

I got a bunch of labels printed for the upcoming batch of Prickly Pear Distortions, and they were perfectly adequate. Especially next to the holographic Nettle's Pedals stickers though, they just don't pop.

As much as it's frustrating to have so many pedals so close to being complete, I made the call to reorder the labels in the same holographic material as the Nettle's Pedals stickers rather than just use the "just fine" logos, and I think it will be very much worth the wait.

The good news is that initial tests of this batch of Prickly Pears have them sounding nearly identical to the original batch from 2017, so once stickers are in and they go through final quality checks, they should be good to be posted for sale. Fingers crossed they do sell, if they do I can afford to continue making and designing more pedals!

I might be getting ahead of myself here, but while waiting on stickers I've been messing around with the circuit from my old seven-knobbed monstrosity of an echo pedal, the I Need Space. It's still early stages, but I have a good feeling about being able to make an updated version of it that has the dark, dirty, warbly, lo-fi sounds of the original but with a more user friendly design.

I don't know how to end blog posts.

Stickers!

12/02/2022

Holographic "Nettle's Pedals" stickers are in! Maybe it's just because I designed them, but I think they look really great in holographic vinyl. I'm looking into ways to be able to ship them cheap enough to post them for sale, but for now they'll ship with pedals or you can grab one from me if you happen to see me in person.

Perhaps even more exciting than the stickers, enclosures for the upcoming batch of Prickly Pear Distortions are set to arrive this evening! I will be hard at work drilling the enclosures and finishing up soldering the circuit boards. If everything works out there could be pedals for sale next week!

In other news, I'm turning 30 tomorrow and I think that's pretty neat. I'm looking forward to spending time with friends and family to celebrate, and I'm excited to spend much of the rest of the day building pedals.

New Name - Nettle's Pedals!

12/01/2022

Hi I'm Nettle and I love to design and build effects pedals.

I used to sell pedals branded as Trans Sisters Sounds, but this time around I'm calling them Nettle's Pedals. I'm still trans, I still think "trans sisters" is a good pun, but Nettle's Pedals feels like a better fit for this project.

I am currently soldering up a batch of Prickly Pear Distortion pedals and will hopefully post them for sale within a few weeks. They're the same circuit as the original Trans Sisters Sounds Prickly Pears, but with updated graphics and powder coated enclosures.

I love this pedal and I'm excited to get to more copies of it out into the world!
